Sinonasal Mass

The  evaluation of the patient with a sinonasal
mass involves confirming the tumor type and defining
the location and extent of the tumor. All patients should
have a thorough head and neck evaluation to assess for
regional disease. The neck should be palpated for cervical
metastases, although it should be noted that the first echelon
drainage lymphatics for the posterior nasal cavity are
the retropharyngeal nodes. The face should be evaluated
for asymmetry or distortion, and a complete cranial nerve
examination is also necessary. The oral cavity needs to be
evaluated for evidence of distortion, loose dentition, trismus,
or gross tumor involvement. Nasal endoscopy is also
indicated to aid in determining the site of origin and extent
of disease.
